Diagnosing hesitation on our 320,000 mile NSX (Fuel pump resistor test)
Recently we noted some low/mid RPM hesitation while driving our now 320,000 mile 1992 Acura NSX. Today we take the first steps in diagnosing this hesitation by testing the fuel pump resistor circuit and test driving!

Rebuild the C30A for our NSX? Let's explore.
powered by powerade and sarcasm
Some days, lol.
Is the noticeably lower oil pressure from your first pull expected? I love these troubleshooting videos.
I have real-time oil pressure on the race-dash so I don't pay a ton of attention to the heavily-damped meter in the cluster. I suspect it's because I went deeper into VTEC on those first pulls and there was less time in between which does drop the pressure a little. On the race dash it was still like 70psi though.
Had this same problem. Tried the resistor and it worked for a bit, but then the car was hestitant again. Had the fuel pump replaced and my issues are gone ever since.
Thanks for the data point. I'm probably going to do the pump as a matter of course, though I have a couple of other things to check along the way I think.
Honda always made the fanciest resistor packs.
Like your powertrain, I hesitated…to begin watching the video.
🤣🤣🤣 It's not the worst news, but more than likely more work that I was hoping for mid-summer, lol.
They have some beautiful cars, motorbikes and aircraft.
Sadly, this reminds me of my hometown track. Not a track like this but a drag strip. Much to our dismay and fueled hatred for the country supervisors who were instrumental in shutting it down. Shutting it down in favor of building homes nobody can afford, in an economy so bad homes already are sitting empty. Sacramento Raceway Park locked up permanently last October after the completion of the Governor's Cup. (Annual fall race) It had the drag strip, oval dirt track and a motocross track. I races there as a high schooler in our annual "High School Team Drags" and also on the motocross track. I'll miss it and so will the thousands of fans and drivers that entered its staging beams. I remember the likes of Gary Ormsby (1989 T/F champion), John Force (16-time F/C champion) when he couldn't beat anyone, Shirley, Garlits, Snake (my favorite driver back then and 4-time F/C champ), Mongoose, 240 Gordie, Frieman's Quickie. Pro Gas grew up on that track too. The Folsom Flash and the Riolo Bros dueling '55 Chevys. Man, I miss those days. Thanks for the memories.
This explains why the OK SCCA regional newsletter was called the War bonnet. I was active in the late 70s and never knew about this track.
Lazy spectators that want to see the same thing every time they attend and not see different parts of a race.
I’m here because there was another motorcycle death and there are no raceways for them to go to. I’ve heard over the years of driving by that track on the way to Mx races that they were going to bring that track back into existence. Very unlikely with the politics of this state allowing it. They would …. Never mind it sickens me they extremes they don’t have to go to to squash ideas just because it won’t affect state tax revenue enough. You see having a track in the country could bring money in but not help bigger cities rape it with taxes and manipulatory policy burdens that they sit around and dream up to close down others dreams. Welcome to Iowa, the Karen state. Unless your gay or farm
Lasted about as long as the Ruan Grand Prix. Or vise versa. That was due to people saying they wanted to work and not have their business closed down for 3 days. The organizational skills of Iowa manipulators suck. They take others ideas and instead of smoothing out the kinks they slam it forward for some pie money not caring if it works, just if their name is tied to it for attention. Then it gets negative reviews by Karen’s and people that didn’t attend or would never attend say good riddance. If you like being mind”f”ed move to Iowa. The politics and money manipulators love their names in the light with others ideas they can destroy and say it didn’t work and never will after they are done with it. “Iowa the state of mind “f”kery”(should be on our license plate) I was hoping for the Ryan Grand Prix to go big but safety squirrels ruined it not developing anything better but complete blockage of everything. I lived in Colorado when the fountain track was built hoping it would be a race complex with a decent road race track but no. An infield subpar squiggle off of an oval just like the Newton Iowa road race🙄 track. This country race days are doomed. They cop tied the Des Moines fairgrounds 1/2 mile dirt track because from what I heard is most tracks nowadays are 3/8th mile dirt tracks and the racers don’t like changing their gearing for one track. There used to be weekly races in the summer there. Late model, midget, sprint, modified, motorcycle. They had a Winston cup race there. Just recently they tore it down destroying the track. 😪 and like everything else from my memory as a kid living here wiped out to make room for Chicago natives to build their crime wave on. There is no Des Moines anymore, just a place for other cities to build and ship their complaints and problems.
if you ever get the chance to drive Daytona, the only part of the windshield you'll be using, is the top left corner, currently covered with stickers. i wish i had my nsx when i drove Daytona.
@@odortiz That video's on here somewhere. Very fun. PR for vmax on a track - 150 even across start/finish on the old motor.
Just discovered your channel. As someone who has been going to track days since the 1980s, this is a great concept. And very well done. One little suggestion is to add some commentary of safety aspects of the track, such as guard rails, flagging, medical facilities, etc.
@@ettenw Thanks for checking it out. You make a fair point about safety etc. I have a "how to" series including several tracks and I should probably include "nearest hospital" in there although one of course hopes no one will need it.
Safety!! Harumph! More fun, adventure and excitement has sadly been taken in the name of safety. In the spirit of a famous WW2 general, “NUTS!!” Racing is dangerous, it should be. This ridiculous over concern with “safety” and litigation has deprived us all in this country of roadracing and rally stage events which somehow still manage to take place in Europe and other countries. I’m not saying absolute ‘caution to the wind’, but there should be a balance. I want the full, traditional Mulsanne straight! I want to see real roadracing on public roads. I want to see rally stages on some of our amazing public roads in this country, the same roads we can experience ourselves.
This is an older video, but Im hoping to get to this place soon, looks like a fun spot for my little 91 Si to play.
Should be a fun car/track combo there!
The aerial views and the roadside stills present in this video certainly make the case that this track is unsafe to race on. 🤔
I’m returning to this video after my current set on my e36 m3 had its swaybar mount ovaled out due to a loosening nut (my fault) on track. Really struggling with getting these or clubsports or mcs. This it a dedicated track car, but I really don’t have the seat time to justify anything past v3’s. Currently have a cheap set that came with the car.
That's where I landed with getting the replacement set. I'm sure someone could potentially get more/better balance out of the clubsports, but I don't have a sufficiently calibrated butt to get the most out of them, and I'm an order of magnitude of subscribers short of being able to afford my own race engineer, lol.
@@LapoftheWorld I hope you get there one day! You’re an inspiration and a great source of knowledge and experience. Glad to have your time responding to my comment on an old video. Have a great day. ✌️

Excellent content!
Woot! Congrats So happy for you guys!
I remember the Lake Afton Grand Prix.
Lot's of folks have mentioned Lake Afton so I'm moving that up on my "hit list" for somewhere to visit soon. I was aware of it but we aren't in Kansas very often.
You live in a great place to have events like this as there are other supporting adventures to look at.
We couldn’t make it this year hopefully next will be there
Great seeing you both there. See you in July!
Great seeing you both as well. 'til next month!
nice short and sweet recap. i'll make it to one of these events someday...
Definitely should. We need to get out to WestFest some year as well.
Grande evento !! Abraços!!
The cesspool of LA
I will have to make my way up to see that sometime.
I used to go the Ponca City Gran Prix. Family and friends all went together and had great fun. Fabulous racing.
I am struggling with this light issue after a long period with a flat battery, my Lamborghini dealer claims there are no fault codes when they hook up the Lara to the car, so they don’t know what to do.. Do you by any chance know what was done with your car to get rid of this? My car claims there is a dipped headlight failure..
These cars do tend to pitch a fit after being left without battery power for any length of time. I've added the relevant forum thread link to the video description (I thought I had back when I published it, but I guess not). Hopefully that helps. Granted, this was pretty specific to the side markers not having a blinking function in the US market, so YMMV with respect to the different dipped headlight error. Taken in excerpt: "THE SOLUTION: Clearing the codes with the dealership's LARA computer did not work as mentioned, but once he figured out what happened he had to change the setting so that the car saw itself as a non-European model. There was one setting he had to change and I don't know exactly what this means but a Lamborghini tech should know and I am providing it in hopes of saving your tech time and money. This is what he did to change that setting using the LARA computer: Channel 19 Change the code to be: 01100 Using the "Kombi Adaption""
@@LapoftheWorld thank you very much sir 👍🏻 hope the Lambo tech will get it sorted soon. Will forward your info
A group used to race outboard hydrofoil boats at Claremore Lake about the same era.
This is great. I worked turn 6 for 3 years and raced there in 1978 in a Showroom Stock LeCar! Drove all the way from Savannah GA. Now I live 7 miles as the crow flies from Rd Atlanta.
I would be interested to hear more about the farmer on the corner. That’s probably my grandfather.
I was also horribly curious about that situation, but I did not find any official or 1st hand accounts during my research. If that was him and you find out more, please share!
Was just at Hallett for a Lemons race, they recently dug a tunnel under the track between 9 & 10 so you can get in and out during a race.
Nice! Definitely an upgrade.
This is super cool I grew up in Ponca and never knew this .. nice little history trip!!
I flipped an MG Midget END-OVER-END in Ponca, 'round the park! Just a SCCoA weekender race, but fun. When I switched to a FIAT X1/9, it was REALLY FUN! 80 MPH racing, but I ran away from the MG's, Bug-eyed Sprites and V-Dubs at Hallet. I could never get enough people interested in a "Formula Toyota 1.8L" class using the I-4 20R engine in the "kit cars". I think the cost of racing slicks became too steep. Breaking parts of a 20R or it's driveline shouldn't have been an issue @ 135HP level.
Grew up in Ponca City and this was an annual event for my family. Thought it was my dad’s idea but learned it was my mom who loved fast cars. She’d get us up early to get prime spot usually at end of main straight. Great memories thanks for this video.
When I was a teen my father and I visited this track. While maneuvering for a good look at the track i suddenly found myself right behind Paul Newman and James Garner. They were both considering going racing at that time. I nearly swallowed my tongue.
Lol, that's awesome. Definitely sounds like one of those, "is this real life" moments.
Wow! I've lived most of my life in Oklahoma, and I never knew this!
This was a yearly ritual for me, had to get the wheat cut before the 4th. so I could go to the races. Such a fun weekend watching friends race and the spectacle of the event. The 70's was such a great time to be alive, lot less rules and a free spirit were the theme. This is the event that got me hooked on Alfa Romeo's, had a 1974 GTV 2000 and still have a 1991 spider. Watching them spar with the the 911's was magic.
In late 1960s and then 70s female dates and I enjoyed many amatuer road races (my favorite sport) at Ponca course. Thanks for many swell memories Ponca folks. Fortunately, now my wife and I drive for less than an hour to greatly enjoy SCCA races at Hallett. I was able to enter Hallett track on a day many years ago when it was not open to public, with help of friend who worked there. The special event was for international great Emerson Fittipaldi's team, who rented track for him only to practice in Indy type car. Emerson was in his prime and I'll always remember being there to watch him put down super fast times on difficult course. Thanks Hallett.
I live 30 minutes north in Kansas and I had no idea of the history of that park, thank you for the input!
This would be such a beautiful bicycle road race course.
Less than a minute in and you say it was paved. Please do some basic research. It was not. My viewing stopped there. Could I believe anything else you say ?
Oxford English Dictionary definition for "paved": to cover an area of ground with a hard, flat surface of pieces of stone, concrete, or bricks. 🍫
Hey , Lap of the world What color are your wheels ?
Enkei's standard gold (on the rare occasion that they're clean).
Was just at Lake Afton yesterday miss the days of the gran prix i have a car built by an old course racer
Hey I live in Ponca City
That was an event that I always looked forward to racing. Fun times, the town was all-in! though it was kinda funny, in hindsight, to see tress "protested" by a stack of old tires...it's fun to see that I appeared in the results in the 1990 Gazette... We just don't do 'em like that any more... EDIT: RIP John Saucier. He was a mentor to me in me SSA days, and he and his wife welcomed me into their home any time I was in the area. Miss those two.
Attended this event ln 1967.
There was also a race track in mannford it’s about a hour south of Ponca city, it’s a trailer park now.
Yup. "War Bonnet". We've been there! It's a while ago, so lower production value, but you'll find it elsewhere on the channel!
@@LapoftheWorld just watch that one too…
My dad was a long time member of the SCCA here in Oklahoma. In 1960 he drove his 1956 VW Karmann-Ghia in an SCCA economy run. His wife (my mom, durhh), was his navigator and pregnant with their first child. Hot summer with no AC... he put blocks of ice in the nostril vents of the car to make the drive more tolerable for her. I remember my dad taking me to the races at Ponca twice. The first time I was so young that I only remember that I went there. The second time must have been '87 because I remember being shortly out of high school (class of '86). It was an awesome and memorable day. I got to talk to a couple of Formula V (VW) teams about building engines for their class. One notable takeaway was the last race of the day, "Showroom Stock". After a full day of unmuffled, roaring, howling or whining engines, it was almost comical contrast to hear just (relatively) quiet revving and squawking tires.
